What kind of gas does the gas boiler burn?

2022 / 06 / June

With the increasing awareness of energy conservation and environmental protection, gas-fired boilers have become the necessary heating equipment for most enterprises. So the question is, what kind of gas does the gas boiler burn?

1. natural gas
Because of its low sulfur content and high calorific value, natural gas is a clean energy source. When choosing what gas to burn in gas-fired boilers, users generally choose it. Natural gas is a general name of hydrocarbon-based mixed gas existing in underground rock reservoirs, with a specific gravity of about 0.65, lighter than air, colorless, tasteless and nontoxic. The main component of natural gas is alkane, in which methane accounts for the vast majority, with a small amount of ethane, propane and butane. In addition, there are generally hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water vapor, a small amount of carbon monoxide and a small amount of rare gases, such as helium and argon. Before the natural gas is delivered to the end user, mercaptan, tetrahydrothiophene, etc. should be used to add odor to the natural gas in order to help leak detection.

2. Biogas
Biogas is a combustible gas produced by microorganism, which belongs to secondary renewable energy and can be directly used as boiler fuel. For example, animal husbandry, wineries, bean products processing, etc., when choosing what gas to burn in gas boilers, biogas and natural gas will be mixed. Because biogas will be produced in the process of wastewater treatment in enterprises, it can be used reasonably, which not only protects the environment, but also is economical and cost-free. However, it contains a small amount of hydrogen sulfide, so boiler manufacturers should pay attention to the anti-corrosion configuration of boiler system.

3. Blast furnace gas
Blast furnace gas is a by-product combustible gas in the process of blast furnace ironmaking. Its main components are CO, CO2, N2, H2, CH4, etc., among which the combustible component CO accounts for about 25%, H2, CH4 are very few, CO2 and N2 account for 15% and 55% respectively, and its calorific value is only about 3,500 kJ/m3. CO2 and N2 in blast furnace gas do not participate in the combustion to generate heat, nor can they support combustion. On the contrary, they also absorb a large amount of heat generated in the combustion process, resulting in a low theoretical combustion temperature of blast furnace gas. This kind of fuel is mostly used by chemical enterprises.

4. Liquefied petroleum gas
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is a colorless volatile liquid obtained by pressurizing and cooling natural gas or petroleum in refinery. It is easy to ignite spontaneously. When its content in the air reaches a certain concentration range, it will explode when it encounters an open flame.
